What is the CompTIA Network+ exam like?

The exam is computer-based with a time limit of 90 minutes with a maximum of 90 questions. You need a score of 720 on a scale of 100-900 in order to pass.

Let’s drill down. There will be questions that are multiple choice (single and multiple answers), drag-and-drop as well as performance-based. If you have never taken a computer-based exam, I highly suggest that you do some practice questions. CompTIA provides some examples on their site to try. Enrolling in a Network+ prep course can give you significant insight into the exam experience with practice tests that give you a real feel for what to expect.

Two final pieces of advice. Testing centers do not allow you to take anything into the testing environment. Bring two forms of ID and leave the rest of your stuff in a safe location. If you have a documented handicap, CompTIA does provide accommodations. You must set up these accommodations ahead of time. For more on test accommodations click here.
What if I don’t pass the first time?

Remember that these exams are not easy. Review materials that you were weak in and try again. Enroll in a prep course so you know where you need to focus your study efforts -- as well as have access to the study material and activities that you need to know.

CompTIA allows you to take a second attempt at any time after your first one. If you need to take the exam for a third time or more, you must wait at least fourteen calendar days from the date of your last attempt.
